“May is the new July… at least when it comes to our week of Directed Retreats traditionally held in the month of July.
This summer (2026) we will be making a transition in our schedule of Directed Retreats by moving the July week of Directed Retreats into the month of May.
This change will relieve some of the pressure of having 14 days of retreats, with only a few hours of turnover between the Directed Retreat and the Preached Retreat. (We will continue to have the Preached Retreat week in July.)
This schedule change will also make it possible for our Novices to attend our Directed retreats, as they have been for many years. (Our Novitiate recently went through a change in their beginning and ending dates. The new profession date for our Oblate Novices- by which their Novitiate is concluded- is now May 29th, so their required retreat before vows must be before that date.)
May is also, by most accounts, a nicer month in which to be on the Shrine grounds than is July.” – Fr. Mark Dean, OMI
